Laptop Accounting Living Learning Community (New for Fall 2007!)

Mission:

The Accounting Laptop Living and Learning Community (LLC) is a program that is only open to Accounting Majors who plan on bringing a laptop computer to campus. In this program, you will be scheduled into special sections of courses required for first semester accounting freshmen where the faculty will expect all students to bring laptops to class. This innovative program is designed to better prepare students for a profession where mobile computing is rapidly becoming the norm.

Over 50% of our students already bring laptop computers to campus. They make a lot of sense for many of our students. All of our academic buildings have wireless access and you have network access in all of the dorms. They take up less space in your dorm room and you can carry your work with you when you go to the library, study lounge or coffee shop. While you will not be using laptops in all of your classes, there are some where it is appropriate, especially in several accounting, business, and mathematics courses that you will take for your major.

The courses that will use laptops during the fall semester of your freshman year are:

:: 92.150 Introduction to Information Technology
:: 90.221 Principles of Accounting I
:: 53.141 Introduction to Statistics

All of these courses satisfy requirements for your Accounting Major. Should you elect to join this program, you will also be pre-scheduled into the following laptop sections for the subsequent spring semester.

:: 92.222 Principles of Accounting II
:: 53.118 Applied Matrix Algebra

If you are planning to live on campus and elect to join this program, then we will place you in the same residence hall as other Laptop Accounting students. This will provide you with more opportunity to get to know your peers, arrange study groups together, and participate in learning community activities.
