International Studies Living Learning Community

Mission:
The International Studies Living and Learning Community welcomes Bloomsburg University students and faculty, whose interests, ambitions, and career goals have an international component, as well as international students and faculty, whose curiosity about American life transcends their academic aspirations. The members of the community embrace an international vision in both academic and daily life.

The students of the International Studies Living and Learning Community will enjoy an intercultural ambiance in residential life. Cultivating an interdisciplinary perspective and fostering an understanding of ethnic and national diversity, the international scope of this community will enable the students to form connections among the academic disciplines while guiding them toward encompassing an international perspective in their courses. The students will be immersed in international life by attending cultural events and lectures and making local and international trips.

If you are interested in international or multicultural experiences, you can be a part of the International Studies Living and Learning Community. You do not need to be enrolled as a language major or fluent in a foreign language to join this community. However, you should take a language course in your first semester. You may choose a language you have already studied in high school or you may wish to begin learning a new language. Bloomsburg University is offering courses in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian and Spanish in the Fall 2008 semester.

Faculty Director, Dr. Ferda Asya, Assistant Professor of English

"Adopting a global perspective in the twenty-first century in all the disciplines and avenues of academic and daily life is urgent. This reality coupled with my living and teaching experiences in seven countries have turned me into a person with a strong conviction in the value of knowledge about different countries and interaction with their people. It is this belief that compelled me to establish the International Studies Living and Learning Community at Bloomsburg University."
